The Heart Supplement That Saved My Dog's Enlarged Heart

When I first heard that something was wrong with my dog Prinz’s heart, everything inside me dropped.

It was supposed to be a normal day. A routine check before his dental procedure. Nothing serious. Nothing urgent.

But then everything changed.

No symptoms. No warning signs. Just a sentence from the vet:
“There’s something wrong with his heart.”

Mitral valve disease (stage B1).

And with it came something I didn’t expect:
his heart was already enlarged.

If you’ve ever heard those words, you know exactly what it feels like.
That moment of uncertainty.
The fear you can’t quite put into words.
And the overwhelming need to do something - anything - to help.

When You Realize It's Serious

The hardest part?
He seemed completely fine.
Still happy. Still playful. Still himself.
But inside, his heart was already struggling.

Mitral valve disease is one of the most common heart conditions in dogs - especially in smaller breeds and as they age. Over time, the mitral valve becomes weaker and starts to leak, forcing the heart to work harder and harder just to pump blood. And that’s where the real problem begins.

Because as the heart works harder, it starts to enlarge over time - and that’s what ultimately leads to even more serious complications.

That’s when I realized:
I couldn’t wait. I had to start supporting his heart immediately.

Searching for Something That Could Help

When something like this happens, you start looking at everything differently.

At that point, Prinz’s heart was already enlarged, and he had been diagnosed at stage B1. Mitral valve disease progresses in stages (B1, B2, C, and D), and at this stage, there are usually no visible symptoms - but the changes inside the heart have already begun.

I spent weeks researching - trying to understand what could actually make a difference. Not just short-term, but something that could truly support him long-term.

And then came the hard truth:
Mitral valve disease isn’t easily curable.

The only real “fix” is surgery - but it’s extremely rare, only performed in a handful of clinics worldwide. Not every dog qualifies, and not every dog survives it.

At that time, Prinz was still in stage B1, which meant surgery wasn’t even an option. Surgical interventions are typically only considered in more advanced stages (stage C), due to the significant risks involved.

    That’s when I realized…

I had to slow the progression.
    Support his heart.
Reduce the strain for as long as possible.

Because the real problem with mitral valve disease isn’t just the valve itself.

    It’s what happens over time:

    the constant strain
    the inefficient pumping
the gradual enlargement of the heart

So I started looking at it from a different angle:
How can I support his heart and slow this process down?

That’s when I kept coming across the same thing - again and again:
EPA and DHA -omega-3 fatty acids

At first, it sounded simple. Too simple, honestly.

But the more I looked into it, the more I realized… this was something that could actually make a huge difference.

EPA and DHA Supplement Changed Everything

EPA and DHA are essential natural omega-3 fatty acids that play a critical role in reducing inflammation and supporting heart function.

And when it comes to heart disease… that matters more than most people realize.

Why EPA & DHA Matter for Dogs:

Support heart function → help the heart pump more efficiently
Reduce inflammation → lowering stress on the heart
Help slow disease progression → crucial for long-term outcomes
Support healthy blood pressure → reduces strain on the heart
Lower risk of complications → including clot formation

The most incredible thing I discovered?
They support the heart in a way that reduces strain, which slows down heart enlargement - and in some cases even shrink the heart back to normal size over time.

    What the Research Says

I needed to know this wasn’t just hope. And the research confirmed it. Studies on EPA and DHA show that dogs with mitral valve disease receiving omega-3 support experience improved heart function, more stable measurements, and slower disease progression.

    In simple terms:
the heart works more efficiently - and with less stress.

And that’s exactly what I started seeing with Prinz.

I Found a Real, Lasting Solution - My Experience with Prinz

One of the biggest lessons this journey taught me is that heart health isn’t about one big solution. It’s about the small things you do every single day. Consistency. Quality. Daily support. And in Prinz’s case, that made all the difference.

After just 8 weeks of giving him EPA and DHA - combined with an adjusted diet to support his heart - his follow-up showed that his heart had already shrunk almost back to normal size, with only slight enlargement remaining. We kept going. And after 10 more months, continuing consistently with EPA and DHA and his special heart diet, his heart was back to normal size. That was the moment I realized - this wasn’t just hope. This is a real solution that is helping his heart and his body.

    What This Journey Taught Me

If your dog has been diagnosed with mitral valve disease - or you simply want to support their heart - this is something worth looking into.

    But always:
    talk to a specialist
    choose quality
    stay consistent

Because when it comes to your dog’s heart even small, daily decisions can change everything.
